Whats Percolating at ConsultantCafe?

A good cup of coffee does not happen instantly. And no, ConsultantCafe does not do Nescafe instant. Here I grind the beans, boil the kettle, wait a little longer than I feel like waiting, and let it draw through. Some things need time to percolate. (My wife Hayley challenged me to use the word "percolate" in my writing, so there it is. Officially in circulation.)

This has been the theme for ConsultantCafe lately. Here are a few ramblings to update you on what has been brewing.

Whats percolating

A lot has been happening. Some of it you can see. Some of it is still taking shape behind the scenes. Either way, I wanted to pause and give you a proper update and, more importantly, say thank you. I cannot brew the good stuff without your support.

When I launched ConsultantCafe in August 2025, I had a simple idea in mind. I wanted to share the lessons consultants usually learn the hard way. The practical stuff. The human stuff. The things that help you feel more capable.

The vision has not changed.

I imagine a consulting world where:

success is defined by growing into the best version of yourself, not by title, billable hours, or years under your belt. A world where consultants feel strong, skilled, and proud of the careers they are building, and where firms are better for it too.

Since launch, I have been sending out a weekly knowledge article. Some have been practical. Some reflective. The point of all of them has been the same. To make sense of the consulting craft, reduce some of the noise, and help consultants build judgment over time.

Cafe Shot Knowlegdge sharing

This year, another part of ConsultantCafe started to take shape. In January, I kicked off the monthly Café Shot knowledge-sharing sessions for Corporate subscribers. They are now open to all paid individual subscribers as well.

ConsultantCafe is not meant to be just a library of articles. I wanted it to feel more like a ConsultantCafe, where people learn together, compare notes, and get a bit stronger in company.

Change in look and feel thanks to Saskia Day

You may also have noticed a not-so-subtle shift in the ConsultantCafe look and feel. It is still rolling out, but it already feels more like us. The person behind that work is Saskia Day, who I consider ConsultantCafe’s first team member.

Saskia has brought real lift to the brand. She started with some brilliant customer journey maps that captured the experience of our different personas with brilliant accuracy.

From here Saskia will develop landing pages ahead of a Reddit campaign I am about to ramp up. She is also working on a few other initiatives we will line up later this year. Saskia is a cracking UX/UI web coding enthusiast, so if you need someone like that, let me know.

A few of my favourite articles so far

While I'm here, let me introduce some of my favorite articles from the last 8 months. They didnt top the pops, but in same way they were the articles that I gave a piece of me to.

No Room for “Jacket on the Chair” Ethics: Consulting Won’t Recover Without Real Integrity
A reflection on consulting ethics that looks beyond scandals to the everyday decisions that define credibility, culture and the kind of professional you want to become.
Toxic Productivity: The High You Didn’t Know You Were Addicted To
Avoiding shame. Avoiding inadequacy and avoiding the consultant’s quiet impostor syndrome. It’s a vain attempt to hide behind busywork, hoping your practice Partner will notice and reward you with a promotion.
You were made redundant. Now what?
Im so sorry you were made redundant, but here are some tips to get back on your feet again.

Thank you

ConsultantCafe is still growing. There is plenty left to build, test, and improve. That is part of the appeal. But I am proud that it still feels personal. Still grounded in lived experience. Still trying to be useful in the ways that matter to you.

Thank you for being part of it. Thank you for supporting my work. Thank you for allowing me to help make a difference.

Like any good brew, this has taken time, patience, and a few (a lot actually) adjustments along the way. The kettle is still on. The ideas are still percolating. And I am looking forward to sharing the next cup with you.
