The market is tough right now. Benches are deeper, panels are tighter, and clients are questioning every dollar of consulting spend and most firms are not hiring to a bench. If you are waiting for the "safe gig", I have news: it is not coming back any time soon. Security no longer comes with the employment contract. You have to build it yourself.
Warren Buffett refuses to invest in a company unless it has an economic moat, a defensible advantage competitors cannot easily cross. Castles had them for good reason. Your career deserves one too. A career moat is the set of advantages that keeps you valuable no matter whose logo is on your lanyard, and no matter which way the market turns.
